An Indian tourist has been arrested in Bangkok after alarming onlookers with a pistol-shaped lighter and hurling expletives in Hindi while also talking in English with a British accent. The 41-year-old was taken into custody after he was seen dancing in the middle of the road and threatening people outside the Novotel Hotel in Siam Square around 4.00 pm on Monday.

According to the Bangkok Post, the man has been identified as Sahil Ram Thadani. In the viral video, Thadani can be seen waving his pistol-shaped lighter at onlookers, triggering panic.

As the incident escalated, security guards and police officers surrounded Thadani. In the second part of the video, Thadani is seen sitting on the road, refusing to stand up. Guards were eventually forced to drag him away. During the arrest, he can be heard crying and pleading, “Call the police,” before apologising.

The video sparked outrage, with a user saying, “Pls Thailand, don’t return him to us.” Another user commented, “The hate is so deserved. Please do better if you’re going to another country.”

“Racism against us is not Enough,” a third user reacted sarcastically.

Police said the tourist continued behaving aggressively even after being detained, allegedly threatening officers at the scene. He was later taken to Pathum Wan Police Station, where he was charged with causing a public disturbance and making threats, the Bangkok Post report said.

Authorities confirmed that Thadani’s erratic behaviour was likely caused by hallucinations linked to cannabis consumption. A preliminary investigation revealed that he had previously served as a director of three companies in India, all of which have since closed down.
