Elephants are known for having strong kinship and social hierarchies within their herds. Young elephants are doted on and supervised by the older herd members. Now, a video that demonstrates this dynamic is winning over the netizens.

The undated video shows two young elephants play-fighting with each other. At one point, the slightly bigger elephant starts overpowering the younger one. However, before this fight escalates the adult elephants from the herd intervene and the young calf quickly seeks their protection.

Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan (@ParveenKaswan) shared this video on Twitter on Tuesday. Kaswan wrote, “When cousins fight elders have to intervene.”

So far, this video has over 43,000 views and hundreds of comments. Commenting on the video, a Twitter user wrote, “Wish I can go and hug them all n play with them . Mighty n divine they are.” Another person remarked, “the younger ones always have it their way he was the one trying to tease the elder one but the family saw the elder one overpowering him ”.

In July last year, a similar video of young elephants play fighting had gone viral. The clip, shared by IAS officer Supriya Sahu, showed the elephant calves playing with each other in the middle of a road.
