Many districts in Gujarat experienced heavy rainfall in the past few days, leading to flooding and several casualties. The city of Vadodara, through which the river Vishwamitri flows, grappled with intense flooding after the river breached its banks on Tuesday due to the incessant rains and the release of water from Ajwa dam.
Now, a video showing some Vadodara residents performing garba in a flooded street has gone viral. The video has amused many social media users considering it was on Wednesday that the Army was called in to help with relief and rescue operations in the city.
An X user @kiranvaniya shared the video saying, “This is Vadodara, Gujarat. In any situation we know how to be happy. Spirit of Gujaratis and love for Garba!!!”

The video has been shared by many social media users, some praising the “spirit” of the locals, and others wondering how they could celebrate while facing a disaster. One user said, “Gujjus just need a reason to garba.” Another user commented, “Ye gujrati log hain saheb ye kuch bhe kr sakte (these are Gujarati people, Sir, they can do anything).”
On Thursday, a Vadodara resident shared photos of his submerged cars on Reddit, saying, “There’s nothing left to live for anymore. All the 3 cars mentioned in my flair are now gone. I stay in a 5 BHK bungalow. In a society with 85 houses. We have 3 car parkings PER HOUSE. Water has seeped 7 inches by far now into my house and almost 4 feet outside my house. What could I have done? The whole area or the whole city has been affected,” the man mentioned in the comment section.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the same day, announced a package worth Rs 1,200 crore for the Vishwamitri River Revival and Redevelopment Project in Vadodara. This announcement came after he visited flood-hit people who were relocated to Pensionpura.
