The implementation of GRAP-4, the highest level of anti-pollution measures under the Graded Response Action Plan, has become a hot topic on Google, trending prominently since Sunday evening. The Delhi government enforced the new restrictions after air quality in the region plunged to “severe plus” levels, with the measures taking effect from 8 a.m. Monday.
According to Google Trends, searches for GRAP-4 surged by over 500%, with more than 500,000 queries recorded on the topic.
Chief Minister Atishi announced on X (formerly Twitter) that starting Monday, all schools will shift to online classes, except for students in Classes 10 and 12. “With the imposition of GRAP-4, physical classes will remain suspended until further notice,” she stated.
The eight-point GRAP-4 action plan includes a ban on the entry of diesel-powered medium and heavy vehicles (BS-IV and below) in Delhi, except those transporting essential goods or providing emergency services. Construction and demolition activities, such as building roads, highways, and flyovers, are also prohibited, barring exceptions for critical infrastructure like metro rail, hospitals, railways, and defense projects.
These additional measures supplement existing restrictions under earlier GRAP stages, such as the prohibition of dust-intensive construction work. The capital and its neighboring regions remain shrouded in smog, necessitating stricter controls to mitigate pollution levels.
