A video that recently went viral shows a girl who has taken an unusual approach to dealing with mosquitoes: by preserving them. Yes, seriously.
The video, shared by Akansha Rawat on Instagram, begins with her pointing to another girl and saying, “Logon ke itne ajeeb shauk hote hain na aur iske itne ajeeb shauk hain. Ruko main tumko dikhati hoon (People have such strange hobbies, right? And she has the strangest of them all. Wait, let me show you).” She then reveals her friend’s bizarre yet strangely meticulous hobby—she tapes the dead mosquitoes onto sheets of paper. But that’s not all.
Each mosquito has been given a name (ranging from ‘Ramesh’ and ‘Tinku’ to the legendary “Sigma Boi”), along with the time of death (T.O.D) and place of death (P.O.D) neatly written beside them. It’s like a tiny, slightly horrifying museum of fallen bloodsuckers. The video even has a caption that reads “Unique hobby,” and honestly, that’s putting it lightly.
Since being posted, the reel has clocked over five million views and stirred a flood of hilarious reactions. One commenter said, “The Riyal Death Notes,” while another said, “Pura machar samaj dara hua hai” (the entire mosquito community is in fear).
A third person wrote, “Khoon chusne wale mosquito female hoti hai. Pr naam ladko ke diye gaye. Purush jivan kathin hai (The blood-sucking mosquito is female, but they’ve been given male names. Life is hard for men).”
“Agli baar female name rkenge naraz mat hoho ap log aur vo abhi bachi hai usko nhi malum female mosquito kaatte hai (Next time, we’ll give her a girl’s name—don’t get upset, folks. And she’s still a kid; she doesn’t know it’s the female mosquito that bites)” Rawat wrote in the comments.
