With the fast-paced world comes loneliness. But it gets sidelined due to the vicious work cycle most professionals become a part of. An X post highlighting the issue has caught the Internet’s attention and has sparked a conversation about moonlighting and work-induced isolation that many people face.

A software development engineer at Oracle was recently spotted moonlighting as a Rapido bike taxi rider on weekends. He was not doing this out of any financial necessity, but to overcome loneliness. The incident came to light when a passenger took a ride on a premium TVS Ronin, a bike priced at nearly Rs 2 lakh, and asked the rider why someone with such a vehicle was working for a ride-hailing service.

The rider responded that he holds a mid-level software engineering position at Oracle and takes up Rapido rides on weekends to interact with people and escape the isolation that often accompanies corporate and remote work life. “A Rapido guy came on a TVS Ronin that costs around Rs 2 lakh. Seeing the bike, I asked him why he was doing this job. He replied that he is an SDE-2 at Oracle and rides his bike on weekends to cure his loneliness,” the now-viral post read.

With over eight lakh views, the post quickly evoked a flurry of reactions. While a section of users voiced their stance on the surge in loneliness, others called it a sneaky tactic to pick up women. “had a pretty similar experience last week, a lead engg was my Rapido captain, making 32L, drives on weekends to cure his loneliness,” a user shared. “if he has stock options then next time he may come in a 20 lakh bike, but still lonely,” another user commented.

“Very true, last week I met a guy who is UX designer but driving rapido on weekends for networking,” a third user reacted. “They do that because mostly girls use Rapido bike. Losers get happy by riding with girls. Though some do that genuinely to earn,” a fourth user commented.
