The skyrocketing price of onions has left many Delhi-NCR residents grappling with the dilemma of whether to buy this essential kitchen staple. Amidst this price surge, a Delhi man’s unusual request to a restaurant on Swiggy has captured widespread attention online.

The now-viral moment was shared on Reddit by the man’s flatmate, who couldn’t stop laughing at the heart-felt plea printed on the food receipt. The customer’s message to the restaurant read: “Bhaiyya, please send round cut onions. Bhaiyya, please. Onions bahut costly hai (onion is too costly), I can’t buy. Please send onions, bhaiyya.” Two sad-face emojis accompanied the request for extra emotional impact.

Much to the delight of the customer—and the Internet—the restaurant complied, the Redditor confirmed.

Several users flocked to the comment section, reacting to the post. One commented, “There’s nothing wrong with this—it’s great to see people in Delhi focusing on discussions and awareness rather than just candle marches.” Another user wrote, “How nicely it is typed I would send one onion.”

The onion prices across several major cities have surged significantly over the past few days. The price of onions has risen from Rs 40-60 kg to Rs 70-80 per kg at the wholesale markets, according to an ANI report. “The price of onions has risen from ₹60 to ₹70 per kilo. We source it from the mandi so the prices we receive from there affect the prices on which we sell it,” ANI quoted a vegetable seller in Delhi as saying.
