The insatiable hunger for fame and recognition on social media often drives “influencers” to create problematic content. A recent incident is a testament to how the line between creativity and desperation has been blurred in the digital age. A Delhi-based influencer Varun Yadav, who enjoys over a million Instagram followers, triggered backlash after he played loud music on a speaker on a flight, leaving fellow passengers stunned.
The viral clip begins with a speaker playing a Punjabi song in full volume. Stunned by Yadav’s action, several passengers turned back to look at the person responsible for the nuisance. The video then shows Yadav vibing to the song while another man films passengers’ reactions. “Bola tha na tumhe main plane mein bhi gaane gaaunga, gaa diya (I told you I would sing on a plane. Look, I did,)” he says in the video.

The said video accumulated over 40 million views as several social media users flocked to the comment section and slammed the influencer. “Puneet superstar is more civilised than these,” a user commented. “Be decent in public places. Ensure that you do not disturb anyone at all,” another user wrote.
“Public nuisance is not content. Be better. I hope @spicejetairlines humbled such people because the caption shouts there will be more,” a third user commented. “Civic sense crying in corner,” another user said.
Soon after the backlash, Yadav released another video mocking his “trolls” over civic sense. In the video, he can be seen taking another flight with a finger on his lips, as a response to users criticising him for playing loud music mid-air.
