British rock band Coldplay dominated the social media scene on Sunday as BookMyshow opened its ticket window for the Mumbai concert in January 2025. The band—comprising of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, Jonny Buckland, and Phil Harvey (manager)—will perform at the DY Patil Sports Stadium, Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra on January 18, 19, and 21.
The ticket booking scene turned chaotic when fans failed to secure even one while unofficial ticketing platforms listed the tickets for Rs 3 lakh even after BookMyShow issued a warning. Despite the third show, thousands of fans were left disappointed after the tickets were sold out within minutes.
Vijay Narain, an X user, pointed out the potential scam by the unofficial ticketing platforms. Re-selling platform Viagogo has Coldplay tickets listed for several times higher.
“How does @viagogo get Coldplay tickets at the same time as @bookmyshow but at black market prices several times higher? Clearly there’s a nexus and BMS is selling them to Viagogo. This is screaming scam!” Narain wrote.

The official handles of BookMyShow and BookMyShowLive shared a statement warning concert-goers of online ticket scams on unofficial ticketing platforms.
“Protect Yourself from Ticket Scams! Don’t fall prey to unauthorized platforms selling fake tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India! It has come to our attention that unauthorised platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid,” the post read. “Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law. Please don’t fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets. Avoid scams! BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales,” the statement read.
The ticket prices range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 12,500, with Rs 35,000 for the lounge area, according to the platform’s website.
Formed in 1997, Coldplay is a British rock band comprising vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey. Social media has not stopped buzzing ever since Coldplay announced the dates of their Music of the Spheres world tour.
On Sunday, the search volume for Coldplay touched over 200,00,00 as BookMyShow opened its ticket window for the band’s concerts in Mumbai.
