Himachal Pradesh witnessed the season’s first snow on Sunday, turning the mountains into a winter wonderland. While tourists and locals celebrated the snowfall by taking pictures and videos, many people had horrifying experiences navigating through the hill station in cars.
A video is doing rounds on the Internet showing cars skidding off the roads near Solang Valley in Manali. It shows several vehicles stuck in a snow-filled road and tourists attempting to stop the cars from slipping uncontrollably. One of the vehicles can be seen on the edge of the gorge.
The video—shot on December 9— was shared by travel vlogger Hamza Murtaza on Instagram. “Situations are very tough and uncontrollable,” he wrote in the caption.

The video quickly gained traction, raising safety concerns for tourists stuck in accident-prone areas in Himachal Pradesh amid heavy snowfall. A user wrote, “In many European countries there are special tyres for snow or slippery roads. Even in India we see Jeeps with iron chains, why is this not made mandatory for all vehicles.” Another user commented, “Himachal Pradesh is really beautiful but it’s dangerous for a new driver, Experience required here.”
“It’s really funny how the administration is not spraying salt on these roads when the weather alert comes for snowfall and make it safer for the public,” a third user said.
On Tuesday, a video of a car sliding off a snow-filled road in Kashmir’s Gulmarg went viral. The video showed several people struggling to walk on the icy stretch, sliding uncontrollably. Right then, a car spiralled out of control.
