Social media is flooded with inspiring stories of people who take bold steps to follow their entrepreneurship dreams. One such story that’s being shared widely is that of Sagar Malhotra, a former banker from Delhi who left behind a successful career to make India’s first chhole kulche vending machine.
According to a report on India Today, Malhotra, a Cambridge graduate, spent a decade in the banking sector before realising he wanted to do something different. “I had an established career in the banking sector, but I always wanted to do something for myself. I went to Cambridge to study, had a stable job, but deep down inside, I wanted something different,” he told India Today. His love for food, especially chhole kulche, pushed him to take a plunge into entrepreneurship.
Disappointed with the inconsistent taste and hygiene at roadside stalls selling his favourite food, Malhotra came up with the idea of automating the process. After a year of research and development—and with strong support from his mother—he built a vending machine that serves fresh, hygienic, and customisable plates of chhole kulche, and that too, in just 60 seconds. Customers can even choose the level of spice––from mild to extra spicy––and pick between traditional maida bhaturas or ones made with whole wheat bread.
His venture, Chakh De Chole, first launched in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden and later expanded to Vikaspuri. With growing demand, he now plans to open outlets in Jaipur and Bengaluru.
The machine has won over food lovers with its delicious chhole kulche, as well as its cleanliness and efficiency.
