Punjab has been hit by severe floods, displacing lakhs of people and destroying 1.75 lakh hectares of land across 1,996 villages. As devastating visuals of the crisis continue to emerge on social media, a clip of a young boy offering money in exchange for a bottle of water has moved people across the Internet.
In the viral video, rescue workers can be seen providing aid in the affected area when the boy offers money to one of them for a water bottle. As the video progresses, the man shows a Rs 10 coin to the camera and says, “He gave me money for a water bottle.” The man then refuses to take the money, but the boy keeps insisting.
Sharing the video, Instagram handle @thelogicalindian wrote, “The incident occurred in Punjab, where heavy monsoon rains led to severe flooding. Witnesses noted the child’s attempt to pay despite his family’s struggles. Relief worker Amanpreet Singh said, ‘His innocence reminds us of the true spirit of humanity.’”

The video quickly gained traction, igniting a flurry of reactions. Several social media users hailed the young boy, with one commenting, “There is still hope in the next generation.” Another user wrote, “A humanity without caste and without borders is such a beautiful thing.”
“The upbringing and culture of children is telling that they are good children. May God keep him and his family safe,” a third user reacted.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has declared 23 districts as flood-affected after rivers and dams swelled to near-critical levels. So far, over 30 people have lost their lives, and lakhs have been impacted by the relentless rain and flooding across the state.
Authorities have evacuated residents from low-lying and severely affected areas, setting up hundreds of relief camps to offer shelter and essential supplies to those displaced by the disaster.
