UPSC topper Aditya Srivastava says he expected to be in top 70, internet reacts to viral video

Aditya Srivastava, an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur, was on Tuesday declared the all-India topper in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Mains Examinations 2023. In a viral video, Srivastava, who got AIR 1 in his third attempt, said he prayed to be in the top 70 and didn’t expect to get the first rank.

Speaking to PTI, Aditya Srivastava said he was expecting a good rank. “Till the morning, I was praying that may God put me in the top 70. It took a bit of time to sink in that I have got 1st rank. I don’t think anyone can say that he or she was expecting to get 1st rank,” Srivastava told the news agency.

The video garnered over 1,72,000 views, leaving social media users inspired. Reacting to it, a user commented, “Soooo sooo Proud Of Himmm. Even though it was his third attempt, today his parents will be the luckiest people in the world because he has got the first rank, in the biggest exam of the country.” Another user wrote, “Greetings & Congratulations. Wish you a bright career ahead. God Bless You.”

“Congratulations Brother. Hope you should make a mark in the life of the #Indians with some breakthrough achievements,” the third user reacted.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Srivastava’s father Ajay Kumar Srivastava said, “In his first attempt, Aditya did not qualify for the interview. In the second attempt, he secured 236th rank and got selected. Despite being in training, Aditya continued his preparations diligently. We anticipated a rank between 30 and 40 due to his hard work, but the result exceeded our expectations”.
