There are times when security check at the airport can be really frustrating. There’ll be rounds of checking for the ticket and identity card. Then security check at the baggage counter is particularly taxing because one is expected to get rid of their leather belongings. Recently, people were even asked to remove their shoes while checking for ‘security purposes’. But rules are rules, aren’t they?
But Marlon James, 2015 Man Booker Prize winner got really upset with the behaviour metted out to him when he landed in Delhi on January 20. He was headed to Jaipur for the literature festival, and the Jamaican-born author took to Facebook to share his dismay. He narrated how he was asked to produce the ticket again, and was also asked to remove his belt. Other inconvenience included the weight of his baggage which he said was 12kg above the amount allowed.
His post is gaining a lot of traction on Facebook and many commented on his post sharing similar experiences. Someone commented “Yes, India is like that only. And they (we?) go apes*** about metal anything.” Another wrote, “Oh my goodness I could tell from this description you were in India…. just be happy that you’re not a woman, in which case you would have to go in a separate security line with a ratio of about 3 men’s to 1 women’s, and wait for the “female attendant” while your bags or going through security over at the men’s line.” And there were people who narrated similar experiences at other airports of the world as well.
