When you’re on holiday in a place like Thailand, the last thing you’d expect is to find king cobras slithering outside your hotel room. But that’s exactly what one tourist woke up to. In a now-viral Instagram video, the man recounts spotting a massive snake just outside his ground-floor room, followed by two more emerging from a hole in the bushes near the balcony. Instagram users quickly identified the reptiles as king cobras.
The video, overlaid with the text “Might be time to leave Thailand,” was posted by the account @thailand_thb with the caption, “Look at the SIZE of them!” It has since gone viral, garnering over 5,000 likes.
Instagram users were shocked to see the scene unfold. One user commented, “Bro witnessing a king cobra nest is CRAZY!!! Scary I’m sure but bro that’s so awesome.” Another user said, “King cobras!! don’t approach them, they are beautiful but also very aggressive and deadly – have a great holiday!!”
Another Instagram user commented, “You are so lucky! They are very rare. Just let them be, let them live, relax. They will escape as soon as they hear you.” A fourth individual wrote, “Book me into a high rise apartment for the rest of the holiday or get me the next flight home.”
This is not the first time a video of a snake in an unexpected place has gone viral. Recently, a snake was discovered on a flight from Bangkok to Phuket, slithering in the overhead cabin. In the video, a flight attendant was seen skillfully catching the small snake using a plastic bottle and a bag, before the plane’s scheduled landing.
In another instance of snakes being found in unexpected places, a man in Thailand discovered a solid frozen snake in his ice cream. He bought the ice cream from a street vendor, and when he unwrapped it, he was met with the sight of a black-and-yellow snake’s head peeking out from the frozen food item.
