Suellen Carey, 36, hogged headlines last year as she tied the knot to “herself” in an unconventional wedding ceremony in London. But now Carey is bored of the supposed “union” and has called it quits. Sologamy or autogamy, the practice of a person marrying themselves, has gained popularity over the years.
According to The Mirror, Carey was struggling to be committed to herself. The Mariah Carey impersonator also revealed that she tried couple therapy sessions alone, however, it did not work. She has now decided to divorce herself.
“I realised I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and that sometimes left me exhausted. I understood that even in a marriage with ourselves, it’s important to accept our imperfections,” Carey told The Mirror. “I realised that my sologamous marriage was a process of healing and self-discovery. “But I also understood that personal growth can lead us in different directions,” she said.
“Even commitment to oneself can have its challenges, such as dealing with the expectation of being perfect for yourself all the time,” Carey said.
Born in Brazil, Carey currently resides in the UK and is popular for her lavish lifestyle seen in her Instagram posts. She got married to herself on September 21, 2023, and shared a series of photos of her in a white wedding dress, calling it “one of the happiest days” of her life.
In 2019, she got a break as a Mariah Carey impersonator and performed at several parties. According to the New York Post, she earned nearly $18,00 in the Christmas season.
