World Rhino Day is observed on September 22 every year. The day commemorates the global effort to protect rhinos and raise awareness to curb poaching. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled his visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

In one of the photos, PM Modi can be seen enjoying an elephant safari at the Kaziranga National Park. “Today, on #WorldRhinoDay, let us reiterate our commitment to protect one of our planet’s most iconic species—rhinos. Compliments to all those involved in rhino conservation efforts over the last many years. It is a matter of immense pride that India is home to a large number of one horned rhinos. I also fondly recall my visit to Kaziranga in Assam and urge you all to visit there as well,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Several social media users hailed PM Modi for highlighting the protection of the endangered species. A user wrote, “Absolutely, sir! It’s inspiring to see India taking the lead in protecting such magnificent animals. Kaziranga is a true gem and efforts like these remind us how important it is to preserve our wildlife. Hope to see more such initiatives to keep our rhinos safe for future generations.” Another user commented, “Save and protect rhinos..the wildlife is a part of our heritage.”

According to the World Wildlife Fund, rhino numbers are declining every year. Additionally, three species of rhino—black, Javan, and Sumatran—are critically endangered.
