The Met Gala continues to be the most anticipated fashion event every year. With the star-studded event nearing, Italian model Eugenio Casnighi, 26, alleged that he was fired from his greeter position at the 2023 Met Gala for overshadowing celebrities like Kylie Jenner.
Sharing the reasons behind his last-minute removal from the event, he alleged that the organisers blamed him for taking attention away from celebrities. “I just got fired from the Met Gala. They fired me because I went viral last year,” he said in a TikTok video as reported by People Magazine.
Casnighi also claimed that he was fired from his job with less than three days’ notice. He mentioned that the company he had signed with wanted him because of his attractive personality.
“It’s funny because the Met Gala and the company that I’m not going to mention…want models to work the red carpet. They want people to get noticed. They literally told me, ‘We picked you because we like you more than other people. But when people took pictures of the actual celebrity, like Kylie Jenner, and I was next to her, of course I ended up in the picture,” he said in the video.
Eugenio Casnighi set the internet on fire last year after he appeared in one of the interview videos featuring Emma Chamberlain and Jennie. Smitten by his looks, the camera person had focused the frame on his face.
A user who shared the video on X wrote, “Ok, I need to know who the dude in the back is, for research purposes.”
