Icelandic professional strongman Hafthor Bjornsson has set a new world deadlift record with a jaw-dropping 510 kg (1,124.4lb) lift at the Mutant World Deadlift Championships in Birmingham. This marks the third time Bjornsson has broken the world record, surpassing his own previous best of 505 kg set earlier this year.

Beyond performing deadlifts, Bjornsson is popular for his role as Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Appearing regularly from seasons four through eight, his fearsome character became a standout in the series’ ensemble cast.

“Sick view of my 510kg / 1124lbs deadlift world record! Crazy how easy it felt. I honestly believe I could have deadlifted 530kg yesterday. What do you guys think,” Bjornsson wrote on Instagram shortly after the lift.

Several fans cheered for Bjornsson, with one commenting, “I thought I felt the earth move when he lifted it!” Another fan wrote, “World best video in powerlifting history.”

“That’s scary how easily he did that I reckon with proper training and diet he could lift 550kg,” a third user reacted. “Still can’t believe how a human being is able to make that weight fly like that,” a fourth fan wrote.

Bjornsson also clinched the title at the Giants Live World Open, delivering remarkable performances in the Power Stairs and Front Hold events. His effort in the Power Stairs, where he hoisted four massive implements in just 31.03 seconds, left commentators calling it “possibly the greatest performance in strength sports history.”

He has 32 international wins and 129 world records, making him the third-most decorated strongman in history, according to Man of Many. He is the only person to have bagged the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man, and World’s Strongest Man titles in the same year.
