Dubai, a city-state known for its arid climate, experienced heavy rainfall on April 16, causing chaos in the United Arab Emirates. The unexpected downpour flooded major parts of the city, including Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest air hub for international passengers, as well as several shopping malls.

On April 16, the UAE experienced an unprecedented amount of rainfall. The National Centre of Meteorology reported that the “Khatm Al Shakla” area in Al Ain received 254mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours, Khaleej Times reported.

According to reports, at least one person was killed in UAE on Tuesday. The heavy rains in UAE came days after a similar situation in neighbouring Oman, where 13 people were killed in flash floods. Several parts of Oman witnessed torrential rains, which trapped students in buses, swept away motorists and trapped people in their homes.

A 40-year-old Emirati man died in Ras Al Khaimah after his car was swept away in flood waters, reported Khaleej Times.
