Authorities in Florida, US, have urged locals not to go near or take selfies with a black bear that according to them has shown signs of severe stress. Photos posted online by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office showing the bear sitting near a tree have attracted attention.
“Famous last words, “If not friend, why friend shaped?” Because this black bear is stressed depressed lemon zest. Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies are monitoring a bear on the north side of Highway 98 near County Road 83 in Santa Rosa Beach,” the post read.
Take a look at the post here:
“Onlookers were trying to take selfies with the bear and he’s clearly not in the mood for pictures. The bear has shown signs of severe stress. We’re going to leave the rest to the pros at Florida Fish and Wildlife who are en route. PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH black bears at any time. Especially those that are showing aggression like this big fella,” it added.
An X user commented on the July 18 post, “Important for people to understand they are NOT DOGS and can run 30mph!” Another user wrote, “I really hope the bear is moved to a safe place.”
“Wildlife everywhere is displaced by humans moving in. Wildlife is amazing. Thanks again for protecting one of Smokey Bear relatives,” a third user reacted.
Meanwhile, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has said in a statement, “It may have just been overheated and was resting before moving on.”
