The post reached over 32,000 social media users who applauded the big wins at the prestigious film festival. Reacting to it, a user commented, “It’s heartening to read your spontaneous appreciation for admirable events of our nation.” Another user wrote, “Right sir.”

Filmmaker Payal Kapadia on Saturday created history as her Malayalam-Hindi drama “All We Imagine as Light” won the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. “This film is about friendship between three women and oftentimes women are pitted against each other. This is the way society is designed and it is very unfortunate. But for me friendship is a very important relationship because it can lead to greater solidarity, inclusivity and empathy towards each other,” Kapadia said in her acceptance speech.

Anasuya Sengupta won the Un Certain Regard Prize for Best Actress for her performance in “The Shameless”. The film, directed and written by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov, traces the life of Renuka, played by Anasuya, who escapes from a Delhi brothel after killing a police officer. The film also stars Omara Shetty. She scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win the award.

The 77th edition of the Cannes film festival concluded on May 25.
