Top 10 richest NRIs in 2024: Gopichand Hinduja leads, US emerges as preferred country

2024 Hurun India Rich List, Richest NRIs: In recent years, non-resident Indians (NRIs) have emerged as significant players in the global economy, contributing significantly through their wealth, investments, remittances, and strategic partnerships.

Notably, there are currently 102 billionaire NRIs, with an impressive 79% of them being self-made individuals, the 2024 Hurun India Rich List reveals in its recent report.

Ranking on top of this list are Gopichand Hinduja and his family, who have a remarkable net worth of INR 192,700 crore.

Gopichand Hinduja serves as the Chairman of the Hinduja Group, one of the largest diversified multinational groups in the world, that spans industries from banking (IndusInd Bank) to trucks, lubricants, cable television, and more.

Following by is Lakshmi Mittal, the Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal—a Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturing corporation and mining companies, whose fortune is estimated at INR 160,900 crore.

In third place is Anil Agarwal and his family, based in London—the founder and chairman of Vedanta Resources, a diversified mining company. Being the largest mining and non-ferrous metals company in India, the company is in the natural resources sector with interests in metals, mining, and oil and gas—with a wealth of INR 111,400 crore.

Shapoor Pallonji Mistry, residing in Monaco, ranks fourth with a net worth of INR 91,400 crore. As the chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which operates in construction, real estate, engineered goods, shipping, biotechnology, and more.

It’s noteworthy to mention that this year, in 2024, the Hurun list has expanded, comprising over 1,500 individuals possessing a net worth of Rs 1,000 crore or more, thereby highlighting a substantial 150% growth from seven years earlier. There’s a total of 1,539 ultra-wealthy individuals in 2024, along with an unprecedented 272 new entries.

The report also highlighted the United States of America is emerging as one of the most preferred destinations for NRIs, hosting 46 of these affluent individuals, followed closely by the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
