Top 10 India’s costliest retail streets: Around the world, high streets are cultural and economic powerhouses that contribute to the distinctive identity of the cities they serve.
Despite economic challenges in recent years, main streets have displayed exceptional resilience, with headline rents around the world subsequently rising to pre-pandemic levels.
While rents globally seem to have climbed up by 4.4% on average during the last year, growth in Asia Pacific dropped from 5.3% to 4.2% conversely.
Nonetheless, India, the world’s fifth-biggest economy, was the strongest global country this year, as seen by its impressive rental growth performance, according to recent Cushman & Wakefield research.
As retailers in India continue to target prime locations for their strategic importance and potential for customer attraction, the recent Cushman & Wakefield report shares the most expensive rental high streets in India as of 2024.
Retail is one of the major contributors to India’s GDP (over 10%) and employment, with India presently among the top five retail markets and projected to become the world’s third-largest consumer market by 2030.
Notably, Delhi’s Khan Market continues to be India’s most expensive main street, retaining its position and registering 7 per cent YOY (year-on-year) rental growth, according to the report.
In another remarkable mention, Bengaluru’s Indiranagar 100 Feet Road has experienced the highest rental growth year-over-year at +32% in 2024, while in contrast, Chennai’s Anna Nagar, 2nd Avenue, is the most affordable main street location globally.
The Cushman & Wakefield report indicates that rental prices have experienced an average YOY growth of 9% across 16 locations in India; here are the top 10 most expensive main streets in India as of 2024.
