The global startup M&A activity has experienced a significant decline since 2021, according to Mind the Bridge and Crunchbase’s recent report.
In 2023, companies completed only 111 deals, down from 145 in 2022, owing to challenging macroeconomic factors, post-pandemic conditions, rising interest rates, and fluctuating inflation, which have led to ongoing fluctuations in deal activity.
However, throughout 2024, M&A deals experienced a steady resurgence, with the EY report noting that in Q2 2024 alone, private equity deal activity saw over 120 deals announced valued at $196 billion.
Examining about 2,532 corporate-startup M&A transactions completed between 2000 and the first half of 2024, Mind the Bridge and Crunchbase have listed the top companies leading the most startup acquisitions from 2000 to 2012.

And when compared to Asian companies, the gap is even more pronounced, with North American firms acquiring startups 7 to 10 times more frequently.
Over the last decade, from 2015 to 2021, Fortune Global 500 firms purchased 150 to 200 technology startups every year, investing an average of -60 billion a year. (Mind the Bridge and Crunchbase)
