At Meta Connect 2024, Mark Zuckerberg announced that they are adding several new AI features to the Ray-Ban Meta augmented Reality glasses.
Similar to Google Assistant, Meta’s AI for smartglasses required users to say the “Hey Meta” phrase to start a conversation. However, the AI will now be able to answer all your follow-up questions without having to say the catchphrase every time you want to ask something. Also, you no longer need to say “look and” to ask the AI questions about the thing you are looking at.
Another useful functionality Meta is adding to its smart glasses is the ability to remember things like the spot where you parked your car and set reminders. The Meta AI update also enables users to ask the AI to scan the QR code they are looking at, make phone calls from flyers and leaflets, and translate text on posters and books in real-time.
Moreover, Meta AI can now record as well as send voice messages to users on WhatsApp and Messenger, which is handy since you won’t have to pull out your phone every time you want to reply to someone. In the coming days, the company says users will be able to translate speech in real-time as well. The feature currently supports Spanish, French and Italian, but support for more languages is coming soon.
At the event, Meta also introduced a special edition transparent Ray-Ban Meta glasses which show the technology packed in the glasses. The company’s smart glasses will also be available in UltraTransitions Gen S lenses, which are developed by EssilorLuxottica.
