Chennai Super Kings were eliminated from the IPL 2025 Playoffs race after the MS Dhoni-led five-time champions were eliminated by the Punjab Kings on Wednesday evening. The Chennai franchise lost their fifth straight match at the Chepauk, previously a fortress for them. This is a new low for CSK as they have now missed the playoffs in back to back seasons. Last season also, they were knocked out after a high profile loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh scored half centuries while bowler Yuzvendra Chahal snapped up 4 wickets, including a hattrick as Sam Curran’s 88 for CSK in the first innings went in vain. With the result, Punjab Kings went second in the table while CSK remained rooted to the bottom of the table.

On Tuesday, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders stunned the Delhi Capitals by 14 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to keep their slim chances of making it to the Indian Premier League playoffs alive. This was the fourth win of the season for KKR. While they were in the middle, it felt like the hosts should get to the target comfortably. But Sunil Narine took 29/3 to weave his magic.
