IPL 2021, RCB vs KKR Highlights: Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers shine in RCB’s third win on trot

Andre Russell seemed really dangerous in only one over. He has struggled to get boundaries for a better part of his innings. Harshal Patel gets Russell's wicket. KKR 162/8 after 19.1 overs

Mohammed Siraj bowls the penultimate over. KKR need 44 runs from 12 deliveries. Siraj does well and keeps a lid on boundaries. Russell refuses singles with Harbhajan Singh on the other end. Kyle Jamieson back in attack. Shakib Al Hasan takes a single, gets Andre Russell on strike. SIX! Russell picks the slower ball and smacks it over mid-wicket for a maximum. Jamieson bowls a wide, too short there. He follows it up with a full delivery, just a single. BOWLED! Shakib goes too far across and ends up losing his wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal to bowl the 17th over. SIX! Andre Russell finally finds the middle of the bat and hits it over mid-wicket for a maximum. FOUR! Another boundary, muscle power from Russell. FOUR! This time he beats the point fielder. That is the sixth delivery he has faced in this innings. He has not got enough strike so far. Rana plays the cut shot but Siraj gets hands on it, just a single. FOUR! Tripathi sweeps that one towards the square leg, another boundary. He hits the pads on next one, a dot ball. WICKET! Tripathi miscues that one badly and Siraj takes the catch comfortably. Kyle Jamieson opens the bowling from the other end. FOUR! Shubman Gill creates room for himself, takes a couple of steps down the wicket and hits the ball through off side for a boundary. Gill plays the next ball back to the bowler, a dot ball. SIX! That is a flat six from Gill as he pulled the short ball off the front foot. SIX! This time he backs away and hits the short ball backward point boundary for a maximum. WICKET! Gill goes for another but this time Daniel Christian takes a stunning catch to get RCB their first breakthrough. Andre Russell bowls the final over. FOUR! AB de Villiers hits it over Russell's head for a boundary. SIX! Russell makes the mistake of bowling a full toss on ABD's legs and it gets the treatment it deserves. Russell bowls it in the block hole but ABD still manages to get a couple of runs. The Caribbean bowler follows it up with a wide. FOUR! Russell bowls a slightly short delivery but ABD guides it over the slip fielder for a boundary. Kyle Jamieson gets beaten on the first ball as Harbhajan slows it up. FOUR! This time Jamieson waits for the ball and slaps it towards covers for a boundary. SIX! Jamieson gets to the pitch of the ball with his long levers and hits it over long-off fielder for a maximum. Excellent hitting from Jamieson. A single off the next delivery. SIX! That is as good as any shot you will see. Fifty for ABD from just 27 deliveries. He follows it up with a wide. SIX! ABD cracks the code and hits the ball deep into the stands. 89-metre six from ABD's bat. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson is the new batter in on the non-striker's end. FOUR! ABD finds the gap as he slices it away towards backward point boundary. A couple of runs off the next ball. Excellent piece of running. FOUR! Full toss and ABD guides it past the wicketkeeper for another boundary. A dot ball to end the over. RCB get 17 runs from Russell's over. RCB 165/4 after 18 overs

Pat Cummins final over. A perfect over from Cummins, just three singles from the first five deliveries. WICKET! Maxwell goes for the pull shot but the top edge ends up in fine leg fielder's hands. Maxwell's innings comes to an end. He scored 78 runs from 49 deliveries including 9 fours and 3 sixes. RCB 148/4 after 17 overs

Prasidh Krishna to bowl his final over. Just two singles from the first three deliveries. FOUR! AB de Villiers hits it to the extra cover boundary. He looks in phenomenal touch today. FOUR! This time he hits it towards midwicket boundary. This partnership is straight out of KKR bowlers' worst nightmare. Get ready for a big finish from RCB if these two batters stay at the crease till the end. Varun Chakravarthy into the attack and he takes a beating from AB de Villiers who hits him for two consecutive boundaries. SIX! Maxwell goes for the switch hit again and this time gets the maximum result. Horrible over from Varun as he leaks 17 runs from it. Eoin Morgan running out of bowling options in death overs. Time to bring Andre Russell into the attack. RCB 134/3 after 15 overs

What a shot by AB de Villiers! After a streaky boundary, he dances down the track to Chakravarthy and hits it straight back past the bowler. No one moved there. Thereafter Maxwell then ends the over with a six! 17 off the over and RCB 134/3 after 15 overs. In IPL since 2019, When AB de Villiers has come to bat in between overs 10-15, he has scored over 300 runs at a strike rate of 188.2. Ominous signs for KKR!

The next 7 overs could prove decisive as to how much RCB put on the board. A well-set Maxwell and ABD could change the contest in a jiffy but the loss of wickets can bring KKR right back into the contest.  One also has to keep an eye on the pitch -- if it does slow down, as it has throughout the tournament, it could still be hard work for the batsmen.

Cummins back in attack. Maxwell gets off the strike with a single. Padikkal use the pace and gets the ball in the gap for a couple of runs. That was a real close call but the umpire signals no ball. Shakib Al Hasan continues, SIX! Maxwell clears his front leg and launches the ball into the stands. This is a good sign for RCB, Maxwell is in good touch. Maybe removing Varun Chakravarthy from the attack after he took two wickets was not a bright idea from captain Morgan. Maxwell gets a single off the next ball. FOUR! This time Padikkal finds the gap on the offside and gets his first boundary. He rotates the strike off the next ball. FOUR! Maxwell plays the reverse sweep and all KKR fielders could do is watch it go over their head. One bounce four for Maxwell. Harbhajan starts off in his typical fashion with two dot deliveries to Virat Kohli in the first over. Oh wait, the siren has been heard and it is a no ball. FREE HIT! Kohli takes a couple of steps down the wicket and manages an outside edge. Dinesh Karthik could not hold on to it. First boundary of the innings. Next ball, Kohli gets to the pitch of the ball, gets a single. Three dot balls in a row to Devdutt Padikkal. Good over from Harbhajan despite the boundary of free hit delivery. RCB 6/0 after 1 over

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in the middle to open the innings. The pitch is better than the ones we have been seeing in Chennai. RCB will look to post somewhere around 170-180 here. Harbhajan Singh will open the bowling for KKR. 

Virat Kohli announced an interesting change in his lineup. Daniel Christian has been replaced by Rajat Patidar. Kohli is backing the local talent on a tough pitch instead of the Aussie all-rounder. The three overseas players in the side are Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers and Kyle Jamieson.

"It is a day game. This pitch seems a little bit dry. Compared to the last game look drier and darker. This might not be the same high-scoring game. Spinners might play an important, especially with the longer square boundaries. Win the toss and bat first," says Murali Karthik.

Hello and welcome to IPL 2021's first double-header Sunday's first match between RCB and KKR. RCB have lost both of their matches whereas KKR lost their previous game for a commanding position. In the last season, RCB dominated KKR. The batting department of KKR disappointed in IPL 2020 as they were scored just 112/9 chasing 195 in their first game and registered just 84/8 while batting first in the second game.
