INDIA opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has informed Sanjay Patil, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) chairman of selection committee, that he will be available for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan to be played in Jaipur from November 1.

This will be his first match for Mumbai, since his decision at the end of last season, to quit on Mumbai and a subsequent about-turn.

Jaiswal flew back home from Australia where he was part of the Indian ODI team which lost the series 1-2 to Australia.

“He has informed MCA that he is available for next Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan,” an MCA official informed.

Jaiswal is not part of India’s T20I team which is scheduled to play a five-match T20I’s series against Australia in coming days. With the South Africa series to be played at home next month, Jaiswal is looking to get some match practice. The MCA selection committee will meet, after their ongoing Ranji Trophy game, against Chattisgarh.

Jaiswal to sponsor Harris and Giles Shield

Meanwhile, Jaiswal has informed Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) that he will be sponsoring the best batsman award for the finals of Under 16 Harris Shield and Under 14 boys Giles Shield tournaments.

“He has written a mail to MSSA informing about his wish to sponsor the best batsman award in the forthcoming Harris and Giles Shield. He has played those tournaments in school cricket and this is a nice gesture for him to remember where he has come from,” MSSA cricket secretary Nadeem Memon said.

Harris and Giles Shield is the oldest school cricket tournament in Mumbai city and is in its 129th year this season. Jaiswal represented Rizvi Springfield High School in his school days and had a series of great performances in his name. More than 200 schools take part in the tournament which is played in Elite and Plate format. Both the tournaments have been looked upon as nurseries of Mumbai cricket.
