Team India to play three match T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka in Pallekele and Colombo

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for India’s tour of Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will tour the island nation and play a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series.

The series will start on 27th July with a T20I game in Pallekele and will conclude on August 7th in Colombo which will host the third ODI.

No Rohit, Virat, Bumrah for SL tour

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of the Indian team that will tour Sri Lanka later this month.

The Indian Express understands that the Indian cricket board wants the captain of the T20 World Cup winning team and the other two seniors to take some more rest before returning for a full season in September when Bangladesh travels to India for two Tests and three T20Is starting on September 19.

“Senior players can take some rest and get ready for the full cricket season ahead. Rohit, Virat and Bumrah have been offered rest and will join the team for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September,” a source in the BCCI told The Indian Express.

Post Bangladesh, the Indian team will host New Zealand at home from October 16-November 5 for three Tests. They will then fly to South Africa to play four T20I’s between November 8 and 15 before a five-match Test series in Australia starting on November 22.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday announced Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team and the southpaw’s first assignment would be the series against Sri Lanka.
