Rinku Singh says the batting advice from coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakymar Yadav is to “keep hitting”.
“Coach and captain has asked us to play our game, whatever the situation is. Maarte jao har ball ko (Just keep hitting every ball),” Rinku told reporters.
“I have been told to back myself and hit the ball. Gautam bhai has given us the freedom.”
Rinku Singh Singh scored a blistering 29-ball 53 and put on a superb partnership of 108 runs for the fourth wicket with player of the match Nitish Kumar Reddy in the second T20I against Bangladesh at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi.
Rinku was not picked for the T20 World Cup and was in the standbys. The southpaw also didn’t get much chance to bat during Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) title triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL)
“There was no anxiety. The way team was playing, our matches were getting over early. Important was to win,” he said.
Rinku, who is playing as a finisher explains his batting methods when he steps in the field.
“My batting order is such that there is no fix time when I will come to bat. When wicket falls early then my plan is to keep the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos and wait for the poor balls to cash in. If when only two and three overs are needed, I try to score as many runs as possible and hit fours and sixes,” he said.
Rinku, who has been ignored in the earlier rounds of the Duleep Trophy is looking to do well in the Ranji Trophy and considers himself an all format player.
“I will not get enough chance to prepare for the Ranji Trophy match. October 12 is our last match. I will get a couple of days. It is very tough to play red ball after playing the white-ball. When I will go to Lucknow, I will bat more in the nets,” he said.
“I see myself as a three format player. Jahaan mauka milega wahaan khelenge (wherever I will get the chance I will play),” he added.
On the Delhi pitch, Rinku said: “At the start the pitch was bit double paced. Sanju bhai and Surya bhai got out to the balls, which gripped in the surface. When I came out to bat Reddy told me how the pitch is behaving and I batted accordingly. The wicket improved a lot later. We were talking to build a partnership and punish the poor deliveries. The momentum shifted when Nitish Reddy got that free hit.”
