Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his concern over Delhi’s deteriorating air quality ahead of India vs Bangladesh first T20I at Arun Jaitely Stadium on Sunday. The Supreme Court-mandated panel declared a public health emergency in the Delhi NCR region which led to schools being shut by Delhi government till November 5.
“The quality of air in Delhi is really scary, the oxygen we breathe is the basic requisite for mankind on this planet. This indeed is emergency,” Ashwin tweeted.
Bangladesh players were seen wearing masks during the practice sessions as Delhi’s air quality remained severe.
On the other hand, India’s T20I stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma does not seem to be affected by the air quality as he referred to the Test played against Sri Lanka in similar conditions in 2017.
“We didn’t have any problem when we played the Test match here (against Sri Lanka). We are not aware of the exact discussion and I haven’t had any problem,” Sharma said.
The Indian off-spinner recently played two List A games for India A in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy 2019. India A have been knocked out of the tournament after two consecutive losses.
