Punjab Kings are almost there with the result. It was that over from Ravindra Jadeja that both the batters went after and turned the game on its head. Though Pathirana has just picked up the wicket of Shreyas Iyer itseems a tad too late.

Shashank Singh has walked into the middle and he has come in the intent to take on the bowling from right one. Meanwhile Shreyas Iyer from the other end too is batting this nicely. He seems to have targeted Pathirana in the middle and he too is not getting many things right does Pathirana. MS Dhoni has to alter something here in terms of tactics. Usually we have seen him use four overs of Pathirana in the final phase but given how expensive he has been today he might consider altering the tactics and give bowling to someone else.

Shreyas Iyer has got to his half-century here. It has been a sublime innings from him yet again. He did start a bit slowly, however, once Prabhsimran had fallen, he smoothly upped the ante. A lot will depend on him here how the Punjab Kings will fare in this contest. Pathirana has come back into the attack and he started poorly here. Like for Punjab it is Shreyas Iyer, for Chennai it has to be Pathirana who has to get it right. As we update Pathirana has picked up the wicket of Nehal Wadhera. The batter tried to go down the track and play one through the off-side ended up giving a simple catch to point fielder.

Pathirana has dropped Prabhsimran, it was a simple catch and could have been taken, but he spilt it in the end. As we update, Prabhsimran has presented another opportunity and this time has been taken. Noor Ahmed is the wicket-taker here and the partnership has finally been broken. This is the moment in the game where Chennai need to built a bit of pressure by bowling a few quiet overs. Nehal Wadhera has walked into the middle while he quite a capable batter is Nehal Wadhera he does need a bit of time to get himself. 

Prabhsimran has started to go after the bowling here. It did start a bit slowly when Priayansh was batting, however, they started to accelerate through the middle overs, which is what he did in the game against Kolkata, which got washed out. Pathirana has come into bowl here and he has not had a good campaign so far, and he did not start well today either. he has bowled full and has drifted towards the legs of Prabhsimran whom he whacked for boundaries. That over from Pathirana has released the pressure built by spinners early on.

We have reached the strategic time out while Punjab are behind the scoring rate, they have wickets in hand, which keeps the game in balance. From Chennai's perspective they have Pathirana who needs to be brought into attack and bowl four overs. In games like this when batters have to go after him is when Pathirana becomes quite lethal bowler. And also the spinners of Chennai have started quite well. Despite the wicket, Punjab Kings have started well here in the powerplay. They have scored over 50 runs and are looking right on course to get these runs. Ravindra Jadeja has been brought into the attack, and Prabhsimran was trying to reverse-sweep the ball missed and was not given out but it was sent upstairs only to find out the impact was outside. We are underway with the chase here in Chennai. We have seen in the first innings there was not much help for the bowlers and we are seeing the same here yet again in the second innings. Priyansh Arya who scored a sublime ton in the first leg of this fixture has started well here again in the second innings. It will be an interesting chase for Punjab as so far in the tournament they have been all or nothing. On the day when the batting clicked they just went to pile on big scores or on the days it did not work out they got bundled out for a low score.

Feeling very good, it was the 19th over and in front of me was Mahi bhai, felt it could go either way, but the plan was to go for wickets. Five fielders were inside and the plan was to bowl on the stumps and also to bowl wide, not bowl easy balls and play with the batter's mind. Well it all fell apart quite quickly for the Super Kings in the end. Chahal has got his hat-trick and Arshdeep Singh, with his final wicket, has closed out the innings. However, this is still quite a superb score on this wicket and even if there slightest bit of turn on offer Chennai does have the spinners to exploit it. Punjab does have the batters to get them over the line and if dew sets in it will help their cause it is going to be quite a fascinating chase. Yuzvendra Chahal has picked up both MS Dhoni and Deepak Hooda in the middle. Both of them have been quite clever deliveries where the balls were tossed up and the batter tried to hit them over the top and failed to do. Despite Shivam Dube having come in and been in the middle for a long time, he has not had much of the strikes yet, and as we update, Chahal has picked up the third wicket. Trying to work the ball on the leg-side, new batter Anshul Kamboj missed and got bowled. Chennai is under the threat of getting bowled out here.

This innings has gone on forever. There has been plenty of wides and a lot of seam bowling. If there is anything which the IPL has to improve, it is the overrates. And as we update, Jansen has picked Sam Curran. It was a bumper from Jansen which Curran tried to duck got the edge to Inglis. Nevertheless, it has been a superb innings from him. MS Dhoni is walking into the middle and Chennai are in quite a superb position. With their current situation, they would be hoping to get around that 200 mark, which will be quite a good total, of dew won't play its part.

Sam Curran has changed gears since his half-century. He did go after Shedge who was coming for Punjab. Iyer giving that third over did take a bit of risk, and Curran did get hold of him. This has been a superb innings from him coming at three. The way he has built the partnership with Brevis and maintained the tempo through the middle overs it was reminiscent of Suresh Raina, who batted splendidly coming in that position and did some remarkable things for the franchise in the past. Dube, meanwhile on the other had not had many strikes so far.

Omarzai has picked up the wicket of Brevis here. He tried to work the ball on the leg-side and missed it and got bowled. Meanwhile, Sam Curran too has gone past his half-century It was quite an aggressive celebration from the batter after getting there. And why not despite the team doing not so great it did take quite a while for him to get into the side. With still five overs remaining and set a batter in the middle CSK are in superposition which has not happened them this season too season. Shivam Dube is the new batter who has walked into the middle.

What an innings this has been from both Curran and Brevis, CSK fans would be wondering where these two have been all this while. It seems like Punjab is in a bit of a pickle here. Iyer might just be considering bringing Chahal or Brar for an over here in the middle, just to see if there is spin on offer. We did see it is a surface which is very dry however, because of the match up and the initial assault we did not see much spin brought into attack. Regardless Chennai is in a very good position with their current position they need to be looking to get the 180-mark.

This is a brilliant partnership between Brevis and Sam Curran. The latter especially, is batting superbly coming at three. It is hard to understand why he did not play a lot earlier than this for the Super Kings this season. As per Punjab, after starting the innings really well are losing a bit of grip; they need someone to break this partnership here. It seems like as long as there is a left-hander in the middle, Iyer would not turn to either of his spinners, and it will be only these pacers who will operate, which can cut either for them.

Change bowling from the Punjab Kings here in the middle. They have brought Shedge into the attack. Despite the wicket being on the slower side it is interesting that they did turn to a seamer instead of a spinner here in the middle. This is a good passage for the Super Kings both these batters are going after the bowling and maintaining a good tempo through the middle overs, which is what they have missed so far in the tournament. With the start they have got they should be looking to get around 180-run mark in the first innings here.

Sam Curran is getting a move on for the Super Kings here. With a left-arm spinner and leg-spinner operating, it does help Chennai with Curran in the middle. We have Dewald Brevis who is in the strike now, and it will be easier to bowl to him with his variations also, it would be wise for Brevis to rotate strike and let the match-up dictate who takes on the bowling As we update, Brevis hits another six here. Well, it seems like the South African has different plans of his own. Regardless it is a big over by Chahal which cannot be afforded this early in his spell.

Ravindra Jadeja tried to cut one and got the edge to the keeper off Harpreet Brar. Chennai has lost third wicket in the powerplay. Just when it seemed like they were getting some acceleration, Chennai has lost another wicket. Dewald Brevis has walked into the middle This is a different challenge for him. He is quite a good stroke player, but the surface here tends to be slowish and sluggish. Yuzvendra Chahal has come into attack for the Punjab Kings it is an important passage of play this is how both parties negotiate this bit. 

Marco Jansen has picked up another wicket here. Ayush Mhatre, trying to whack one through the covers, got caught there. It is quite a slowish and sluggish one, and the batters coming in need some time to get themselves in Also on wickets like this we have seen in the past as the ball gets old stroke making gets quite difficult and seems like that will be the case today also. It will be quite a tricky game here for the Super Kings especially after having another poor powerplay here in the middle. They will need 170 at least if they have to game out in the middle especially with dew coming in the evening.

Rasheed, after getting beaten a few times, is now batting well here as he has adjusted to the pace of the surface, and as we update, he has fallen. It was a good length delivery from Arshdeep, which Rasheed tried to hit over the in-field, ended up skying one, and Shashank Singh has taken a simple catch on the boundary. That is the first wicket for Punjab Kings, meanwhile Arshdeep Singh continues on his streak of picking wickets in the powerplay. Sam Curran has walked in at three for the Super Kings here. There is absolutely no pace on this wicket for the batters to work with.

The pitch is quite dry here in Chennai at the moment, and Arshdeep Singh has taken the ball. There is not much swing on offer, we might see plenty of spin used by both teams here. Shaik Rasheed, though seems technically right, has been unable to deliver the results for the Super Kings so far this season, he would be hoping today is the day he might come good. Meanwhile Ayush Mathre on the other hand has been more of an aggressive batter and if CSK needs to post a good total on the board they will need both these batters to have a good powerplay as the softer ball might be hard to get away.

The yellow flags are flying here and the crowd is buzzing. While there might not be a lot at stake for the Chennai Super Kings they would still want to give something for their fans who have turned up in numbers. Shaik Rasheed and Ayush has walked into the middle and Arshdeep has the new ball for the Kings.

It's very hot. 68 meter boundary on one side, 65 meters on the other. Straight boundary is 80 meters. This wicket has been used during this tournament already, and in that game the KKR spinners wreaked havoc. There's not a blade of grass on the pitch. It's very very dry. There's a lot of cracking as well. As the new ball starts to wear off, it's going to spin. What does that mean for a batter? You've got to make the majority of runs when the ball is harder and skidding on. I don't know I'm coming for the next game (laughs). One of the things is the pride factor. Majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven't been able to capitalise on. Same team. We've been a side where we don't make a lot of changes. But this season we've made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players. But this season it hasn't worked for us. It's also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better.

We're going to bowl first. We'll focus on our process. Our preparations have been intact. Boys are in high spirits and looking forward for a great game. Unfortunate that he's got a fractured finger (Maxwell). Haven't decided on a replacement so far.

Hyderabad appeared to be losing momentum after Jadeja dismissed Klaasen. However, Ishan Kishan's 44 runs helped stabilize their chase. Chennai regained some hope when Ishan and Aniket Sharma were dismissed in quick succession.

Despite attention on their unreliable top order, Chennai's middle order has also struggled consistently this season. ¹ In their recent Friday match, they again lost quick early wickets in the Powerplay (including a first-ball dismissal), yet they managed a relatively fast start, reaching 50 runs in the first six overs, a rare occurrence for them this season.

Facing likely playoff elimination due to poor performance, Chennai's coach and captain are already focusing on next season. This was evident in their recent team selection, which included several young players, shifting away from their older squad. While mathematically still in playoff contention, Chennai's priority is now developing their young talent, especially after positive showings from some of them. The latest addition, Brewis, was expected to demonstrate his potential.

Before their match, both struggling Hyderabad (9th) and Chennai (last) had experienced convincing losses this season. Despite their poor standings, they played a close game where Hyderabad managed to defeat Chennai by five wickets, their first win against them at this venue. This victory boosts Hyderabad's playoff chances, while Chennai has now lost their home advantage.

The hot and humid conditions in Chennai, with a forecast of 36°C (feeling like 43°C) and windy afternoons and evenings, will always be a crucial factor to consider when making strategic decisions during a match.

Chepauk's pitch usually favors spinners this season, but SRH's recent strong performance with fast bowlers there suggests batting first after winning the toss could be a good strategy. However, a key factor in Chennai still needs to be considered.

"I think in terms of our middle order, it can get quite tough in a tournament where the top order is doing so well and their chances are very limited. If we go through the last few games... we are looking at a middle order that hasn't faced that many balls in the last couple of weeks. They're training very well and I'm not going to say I wish the middle order would do more because that means our top order is not doing what they're doing. I think they'll take our top order doing what they're doing and trust that people like Nehal, Glenn, Josh, Shashank, they'll come good and they'll have their moments when required.

"The way we batted in the last match, even though we didn't get a winning score, it looked more like the way we'd like to play. So, yeah, the more positive intent was there, looking to push the game forward, looking to take the game on a little bit more, but still do it in a smart way. It definitely looked better than some of the previous games where we looked like we were playing with a little bit more fear, looking to not make a mistake, which is not the way we want to play. It's not going to be successful in this competition." 

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s childhood coach Mohan Jadhav was confident that his ward would one day lead Chennai Super Kings, but he never thought it would happen so soon. 

In the recent episode of the House of Glory podcast, an initiative by Gagan Narang Sports Foundation, Ruturaj’s coach Jadhav engaged in an interesting conversation, discussing everything from Gaikwad’s early cricket days to his selection in Team India.

Expressing his feelings about Gaikwad being handed the reins of CSK, Jadhav said, “I was definitely expecting it, but not this early because there were equally talented people already in line. But as and when CSK announced this decision, it set me on cloud nine. We felt like we are finally achieving our aims.”

“During his last year as his coach, I gave him the captaincy for the first time. His attitude at that time was astoundingly mature. Reflecting on that, when I see him today as CSK’s captain, it really does not astonish me. He was meant for it. And I’m sure CSK was on the lookout for someone like him only,” he added.
