India will play only their fifth pink-ball Test when they meet Australia at the Adelaide Oval in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy from Friday.
This will be India’s second day-night Test match away from home, with the last overseas outing also being at the same venue in 2020. That particular match was one that Indian supporters would have loved to forget quickly in the aftermath, but it is now remembered almost lovingly because of what happened afterwards.
India’s first pink-ball Test match was in 2019 against Bangladesh. Kolkata’s Eden Gardens hosted the historic match that the Indians won comfortably.
So far, India has played four pink-ball Tests. Following their victory over Bangladesh, India lost to Australia in 2020 before defeating England and Sri Lanka at home in 2021. India’s highest day-night Test score came in their first appearance against Bangladesh when they compiled 347/9 declared in Kolkata. Their lowest total in Test history, an ignominious 36 all out, came at the hands of Australia in their last Adelaide visit.
