The rain has stopped. Ground staff out to remove the covers, pings Shankar

IND-W vs BAN-W Women’s World Cup 2025 Match LIVE Score Updates: Rain struck again in the middle of the match as the India and Bangladesh players rushed off the field with the BAN innings at 39/2 after 12.2 overs. Earlier, Renuka Singh Thakur struck early to send back Sumaiya Akter while Deepti Sharma struck to take out Rubya Haider Jhelik as BAN went 2 down. The India vs Bangladesh match was shortened to 43-over per side encounter after rain delayed the game in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Eralier, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl first against Nigar Sultana’s Bangladesh on match 28 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.
India found itself in a bit of a pickle after a hat-trick of defeats in a row against South Africa, Australia, and England, but the side managed to pull off a stunning win against New Zealand in the previous game at the same venue. While the game will be inconsequential in terms of who will qualify for the semifinals, India might be looking to try out a few combinations.
As per Bangladesh, it has been another dissapointing World Cup. Before leaving India, they would want to finish the tournament on a high, upsetting the hosts. “They are a good and strong team. But after losing the last match, we took almost two days’ break and then discussed how we could give our best since this is the last game of the tournament. We talked about how the batters could correct their mistakes so that they don’t repeat them in the next match,” said Sobhana Mostary.
Teams:
Bangladesh Women (Playing XI): Sumaiya Akter, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akhter, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana(w/c), Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, Nishita Akter Nishi, Marufa Akter

The rain has stopped. Ground staff out to remove the covers, pings Shankar
The rain has reduced to a mild drizzle. But hasn't fully stopped, informs Shankar
The intensity of the rain has come down. The crowds are returning to the lower stands, pings Shankar
There is a light show on at the ground to keep the crowd entertained. Still a decent number of folks at the venue, says Shankar
Apart from the players and officials, one other factor that could have a say on Sunday’s match could be the rain. As per the Accuweather website, there is likely to be a downpour at various points of the afternoon from 2-4 pm and later in the evening from 5-8 pm. India’s win against New Zealand was also hit by rain between the innings, with NZ’s innings reduced to 44 overs after India batted for 49.
Nothing new to update. Still raining at the ground, says Shankar
The rain has picked up even more. There is some time left for a 20-over game but a restart looks unlikely for now.
Looking grim. Raining intensely and a restart looks unlikely anytime soon, pings Shankar
The rain is back. The players rush off the field. We are set for another delay now, says Shankar
Surprisingly, Amanjot has replaced Deepti after the spinner had taken a wicket in her last over. Yields a single from the first three deliveries. Another 2-run over in an innings chalk full of them.
BAN 38/2 after 12 overs
Spin from both ends now as Sree Charani is in the attack. Sharmin with a single to go off strike. The BAN captain Nigar with a sweep next to take a single of her own. Just 2 from this one.
BAN 36/2 after 11 overs
"With regards to Deepti, she's a champion player, boss. She's a champion player. I mean every time India needs a performance, Deepti has always raised her hands. Be it batting, be it bowling. You go into the different, different series that we have played so far in the build-up for the World Cup she has always contributed, specifically if you ask me what, what area she has worked upon - obviously the skills in the terms of her stock ball she's worked upon that. The zip into the stock ball she's worked upon, she's worked upon different, different variation balls and getting accuracy over it and the control over it. She's been working, very keen on working on that aspect," - Bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi on Deepti when Express asked what she's working on BTS
Deepti Sharma goes level with Australia’s Annabel Sutherland as the leading wicket-takers of this tournament, with her 15th wicket. The allrounder has been India’s most consistent with the ball in hand, says Vinayakk
Deepti back in the attack and she strikes!! The breakthrough that India needed. Jhelik goes for a swing and that has gone high up in the air with Harleen taking the catch!
Rubya Haider Jhelik c Harleen Deol b Deepti Sharma 13(32)
Bangladesh get a move on with three fours in the eighth and ninth over through Sharmin and Haider. However, it has been India’s power play for the most part on a pitch with a fair bit for the bowlers.
Renuka to bowl the last over of the powerplay and Jhelik flicks one to the deep midwicket area for a boundary!! Tries another flick but can't get it to the same area as India keep it down to a single. Sharmin on strike and she cuts the 5th delivery through backward point for a 4!! Ohhhh!! The next one is put down!! Shree Charani has spilled one!!
BAN 34/1 after 9 overs
Amanjot will bowl the penultimate over of the powerplay and yields just 1 from the first three deliveries. Follows that up with a wide and another run. And the over ends with a boundary by Sharmin!! Goes to the mid-off boundary, just evading the player in the inner cirle.
BAN 25/1 after 8 overs
Dark clouds hovering towards my left, says Shankar
Renuka will continue and Jhelik mines a single from the first three balls. Bangladesh are going at a glacial pace right now. They need some fireworks before the powerplay ends and the field restrictions are lifted. 2 runs to end.
BAN 18/1 after 7 overs
Change in bowling now as Amanjot replaces Deepti and starts with a wide. Follows that up with back to back dots as she keeps going wide to Jhelik. Just 2 from this over as well.
BAN 14/1 after 6 overs
As big a test as the Bangladesh batters may have ever had on a pitch with so much help for the medium-pacers. India have been on the money from the start.
Renuka will bowl to Jhelik now and that's 3 back to back dots as Bangladesh's struggles in the powerplay continues. Finally a single as Sharmin comes on strike. What can she do? And she can get the first boundary of BAN innings. Great timing as the ball flies through the covers for a four!!
BAN 12/1 after 5 overs
Jemimah Rodrigues in a gully position for Renuka Singh Thakur. There is no 2nd slip in place
Deepti to Jhelik now and after a dot, the Bangla batter tries a sweep and gets off the mark with a single. Follows it up with a wide now. Just 2 from this one as well.
BAN 7/1 after 4 overs
Renuka continues and a little bit of misfield leads to Sharmin taking a single to get off the mark. Jhelik will face the pacer now. Can't get off the mark with the fielders expertly placed. Gets a single off the 4th delivery at long last as the over yields just 2.
BAN 5/1 after 3 overs
Deepti in the attack and starts with 4 dots on the bounce as Jhelik is cautious in the early goings, just content to defend and see off this over. Maiden for Deepti to start
BAN 3/1 after 2 overs
Interesting move to get spin on early. The pitch has been under covers for a quite some time and the first ball from Renuka swung back in a fair bit.
Renuka steams in and oh my word, that has swung like a boomerang and missed everything, the bat as well as the stumps. Sumaiya Akter was well beaten!! a huge shout for an LBW next but the umpire is nonchalant. Finally off the mark with 2 runs. AAAND GONE!! Sumaiya has played that straight into the grateful palms of Shree Charani at short third.
Sumaiya Akter c Shree Charani b Renuka Singh 2(6)
Deepti Sharma standing next to Uma Chetry at first slip. Sneh Rana stood there in the last game when Richa Ghosh kept wickets.
Here come the two Bangladesh openers for the last time in this edition of the World Cup with Sumaiya Akhter and Rubya Haider Jhelik taking their stance. Renuka will start proceedings.
Right there, it's almost time for live action as the 2 sets of players walk out for the national anthems. Bangladesh's first, followed by India's.
“For sure, it’s a big relief in terms of qualifying. The last three games were really tough. We thought we played some good cricket but just couldn’t win, so this is really relieving,” Mandhana said at the post-match presentation.
So here's the latest update: Match will start at 5 pm. It'll be a 43 over- a side match with a 9-over powerplay.
Meanwhile, in the other match of the day, England defeat New Zealand by 8 wickets in Visakhapatnam.
All covers removed. Super-sopper at work. Umpires by the pitch to assess conditions, says Shankar
When the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup began in Guwahati almost a month ago, India were high on hope to break their big tournament jinx. For that, runs from Smriti Mandhana’s bat were going to be crucial. After an indifferent start to the tournament, the left-hander came into her own in the innings against Australia at Vizag, where an 80 off 66 balls helped her regain confidence and rhythm. Smriti took India almost to victory’s doorstep against England but her best was seen on Thursday in the crucial game against New Zealand at the D.Y. Patil Stadium. She sizzled her way to a 14th ODI hundred – India’s first in the tournament – setting the best possible foundation, along with Pratika Rawal, to take the co-hosts to a massive score. (READ MORE)
The one big puddle that will need clearing before any thought of starting the match could cross the mind, says Shankar
The covers are coming off, says Shankar from the venue.
How did India qualify for the semifinals after defeating the Kiwis on Thursday when both the Women in Blue and New Zealand still had one more match in hand. India who are on 6 points will play Bangladesh on Sunday while New Zealand take on England. If New Zealand beat England and India lose to Bangladesh both teams would be on same points and depending on how both matches went, New Zealand could have clawed back the deficit in run rate. But we won’t have this scenario because of the ICC tournament rule. (READ ABOUT IT HERE)
On a hot Delhi afternoon a few days before the start of the ICC Women’s World Cup, Pradeep Rawal apologises for being a few minutes late for our meeting. He had a few errands to run, he says. Later, he whips out his mobile phone and shows the reason for his delay: he had to visit the local printer to give orders for some banners to display at venues that he planned to visit during the tournament. One of those read: ‘100* – Pratika Rawal: Proud Moment of Father.’ (READ HERE)
An important update: With the delay having crossed the hour mark from the scheduled start of play at 3 p.m., we have started losing overs now. So when the rain does stop and we have a start time, it will be a shortened match, says Shankar
India will take on Australia in the second semifinal in Navi Mumbai on October 30. In the first semifinal, South Africa will take on England at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
The covers firmly in place but....the tyres on top of them are being rolled to the side.
Down to a very mild drizzle and as reported earlier it has gotten clearer on the other side
While the rain has not stopped yet, it is getting a bit brighter on the other side of the ground
The crowd is making its way back to the seats in the lower stands. The intensity of the rain has come down significantly but there is a drizzle still on. Covers firmly in place
We're going to bowl first. Because of the overcast conditions we thought bowling would be a good decision. She's going to debut today (Uma Chetry). Richa is resting. Two more players are resting - Kranti and Sneh Rana. Had the self belief that we can change this (after three losses).
With strong winds accompanying the rain, the ground staff are using tyres on the covers to ensure they are not blown away. Spare a thought for them. Done a terrific job right through the tournament.
Sumaiya Akter, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akhter, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana(w/c), Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, Nishita Akter Nishi, Marufa Akter
A silver lining amidst the dark clouds is that Harmanpreet Kaur has FINALLY won a toss. At the venue, it is now a full thunderstorm. Spectators seated in the lower stands are rushing inside. We could be in for a long delay
Bad news again. The rain is back and so are the covers.
Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur(c), Deepti Sharma, Uma Chetry(w), Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Shree Charani, Renuka Singh Thak
The crowd has picked up inside the venue. The lower stands on both sides of the venue are almost full while the seats seem to be filling up on the upper stands.
Very dark overhead.
Renuka Singh Thakur, Sree Charani and Radha Yadav are bowling with the India jersey on while Amanjot Kaur is bowling with the training jersey on. We will know soon over how many changes will be there to the XI apart from Uma Chetry making her debut
Toss at 3:05 PM and play to start at 3:25 PM pings Shankar Narayan from venue
All covers removed again but hopefully for the last time. No sign of the sun at the ground
It looks like it is going to be one of those days. The covers are back om as it has started raining again.
The lights are coming on, but even more importantly, the covers are coming off at the D.Y.Patil Stadium. However it is still cloudy around the stadium.
The positive sign is there are no umbrellas up. So as soon as the drizzle stops, there is a chance the covers could be off and with a few minutes of super sopper use to remove the water, we could get closer to the toss.
The covers being rushed to the ground as the rain arrives 10 minutes before the toss. It is not too heavy and there is a steady wind blowing too. Hopefully we should have better news soon
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: Looks like Uma Chetry has been given her cap in a huddle as per the broadcast. ODI debut at a World Cup for the wicketkeeper from Assam, who was brought into the squad as the replacement for the injured Yastika Bhatia.
Sneh Rana, Amanjot Kaur and Kranti Gaud the only bowlers taking part in training.
Dark clouds above the stadium even as the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Kranti Gaud go through their drills on the ground. The sun has gone hiding.
Uma Chetry going through her wicketkeeping drills with the coaches. First indications today that perhaps she's getting closer to an ODI debut.
The most pleasant day of the week at Navi Mumbai. The sun is not out fully there are no dark clouds hovering above either. India again taking it light in training.
Hello and welcome to our live blog of India taking on Bangladesh here in Navi Mumbai. Although the game is inconsequential in terms of who is going to progress but India especially has a few things to test and might be using the opportunity today to do the same. Do stay with us, it is going to be a fascinating game of cricket.
Having already secured their World Cup semi-final qualification following a Thursday win over New Zealand, the Indian cricket team opted for a light training session on Saturday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, ahead of their final league match against Bangladesh. Only a small group of five players—Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Uma Chetry, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur—participated in the drills at the nets under cloudy and shifting weather conditions.
