Bangladesh vs Nepal, T20 World Cup 2024 Highlights: BAN beat NEP by 21 runs to qualify for the Super 8s

Rohit Paudel (Nepal Captain): "I think as a bowling unit we bowled really well but as a batting unit, we could have been tighter. Bangladesh bowled really well and after first six overs we were four down and it put a lot pressure on us. The top order batters could have taken more responsibility. 

I think they bowled really well in the powerplay. 

As a batting unit, we need to step up. We need to understand where to score runs. I think in bowling we were up to the mark but as a batting unit, we need to work a lot. 

Absolutely, I believe this team has a bright future but we need to work hard. We will do better in upcoming World Cups. 

I think we have disappointed them. "

"You know, we just want to keep things simple. We didn't want to panic and keep it simple and we did it. Everyone bowled well. Mustafizur bowled a maiden. Taskin, Shakib Al Hasan everyone bowled well as a unit.

(On whether they thought it will be tough for Nepal to chase down the target) Yes, spinners were turning it a lot on this track and we just bowled in right areas and got the results."

Two in two for Shakib as Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 21 runs and they have now qualified for the Super 8 stage. This is the lowest total ever defended in the men's T20 World Cup. 

A wicket maiden for Mustafizur in the 19th over. Fizz proved to be too good for Airee. Nepal need 22 runs in 6 balls.

Taskin Ahmed removes the wicket of Gulsan Jha. Nepal need 22 runs in 13 balls.

Airee with a much-needed maximum. A courageous shot from the right-hander batter against Taskin. Nepal need 23 runs in 16 balls. (NEP: 84 for 6 after 17.2 overs)

Mustafizur provides the much-needed breakthrough here! Shanto keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a good catch running to his back, keeping it intact with his hands despite falling to his back.  Nepal need 29 runs in 20 balls

Malla tickles it away finer off the back foot. Mahmudullah is leaking runs in this over, already 12 runs have been scored in this over so far and the 50-run partnership is up between Malla and Airee. Nepal need 30 runs in 24 balls. (NEP: 77 for 5 after 16 overs)

What a strike. That's what the doctor has ordered for Nepal. Kushal Malla heaved it over deep mid-wicket for a six. Nepal need 34 runs in 24 balls. (NEP: 73 for 5 after 15.4 overs)

Just four runs came from Shakib's over. Nepal are still in the match, they just need one big over. Nepal need 42 runs in 30 balls. (NEP: 65 for 5 after 15 overs)

Airee is keeping Nepal in the game. He just stands tall and slashes it aerially just over backward point for a boundary. These two are holding the fort for Nepal. Nepal need 46 runs in 36 balls. (NEP: 61 for 5 after 14 overs)

Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla have steadied the ship for Nepal. The introduction of the spinners have eased down a bit of pressure. Nepal need 66 runs in 65 balls. (NEP: 40/5 after 9 overs)

What on earth is this pitch? Rishad starts with five wides. The ball turns in a long way and has some bounce as Kushal Malla leaves it alone. It spins in past the batter down leg and the keeper has no chance of collecting it. (NEP: 33/5 after 7.2 overs)

Sloppy fielding in the deep and Aasif will collect another boundary. 

Another wicket-maiden over from Tanzim Hasan Sakib. At the moment, Tanzim is having dream figures, 3-2-5-3!

Tanzim with the third wicket. Rohit Paudel is absolutely livid with himself.  Tanzim Hasan Sakib has the last laugh on Paudel. Sakib is breathing fire, and Nepal is crumbling under pressure. Nepal need 87 runs in 92 balls. (NEP: 20/3 after 4.4 overs)

Short of authority from Aasif. He cuts it uppishly over point and cover point fielder for a cracking boundary. Nepal need 87 runs in 96 balls. (NEP: 20/2 after 4 overs)

Hold that pose Aasif. Taskin pitches it full and Aasif crunches it back past the bowler for four. Great chase by Shanto but he cannot stop it. Nepal need 92 runs in 100 balls. (NEP: 15/2 after 3.2 overs)

Oh dear, there is an on-field tussle going on between Tanzim and Nepal captain Rohit Paudel. The umpires are now having a word with Shanto

Tanzim is ratting Nepal with the pace. Anil Sah departs without scoring. 

Tanzim strikes for Bangladesh. Bhurtel is undone with a low full toss. Bhurtel can't believe that he missed a juicy full toss. 

Aasif swing this away on the leg side to collect his first boundary. Nepal need 98 runs in 108 balls. (NEP: 9/0 after 2 overs) 

Nasty stuff from Taskin, he has been hit on the helmet by Taskin Ahmed. Nepal need 102 runs in 111 balls. (NEP: 5/0 after 1.3 overs) 

Inside edge and Nepal are up and running. Lots of seam movement for Tanzim. Lots of encouragement for the bowlers. Nepal need 103 runs in 117 balls. (NEP: 4/0 after 0.3 overs) 

Nepal openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh are out in the middle and for Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib will start the proceedings. 

"The wicket is very good, and I worked very hard on my plannings and all, so yeah, I am very happy with my performance. He came and said that you have to bowl the third over, I insisted on bowling in death overs, but he urged me to bowl the third over. Thank you so much, Rohit for believing in me. The wicket is very slow that's why we used spinners and that really helped us. They are pro players and we just have to watch the ball and play sensibly."

Bangladesh are skittled for 106 runs in 19.3 overs. This is Bangladesh's lowest total against an associate nation in T20 World Cups. 

It's a run-out to finish Bangladesh's innings. Nepal have done an excellent job as they knocked over Bangladesh for just 106 in 19.3 overs! 

Taskin slashes and slashes too hard at it to collect another boundary. Believe it or not, this is the second-highest partnership in this innings.

Abinash Bohara has been introduced into the attack to bowl the 19th over and 11 runs off the penultimate over and 100 up for Bangladesh. (BAN: 101/9 after 19 overs)

These are valuable runs for Bangladesh. A streaky boundary for Taskin Ahmed and Bangladesh! They won't complain. A boundary at this stage in a big bonus for Bangladesh. (BAN: 98/9 after 18.4 overs)

Airee picks up his second wicket. The cameo of Rishad Hossain ends with Anil Sah taking a good catch at the long-on.  (NEP: 89/9 after 17.3 overs)

Now he followed the six with a boundary. Hossain shuffles across his stumps and slogs it towards deep mid-wicket for a boundary.  (BAN: 86/8 after 16.3 overs)

Rishad Hossain is fighting the battle for Bangladesh. A leg break from Bhurtel and he Rishad rocks back and pulls it high and gets enough height and distance to clear the fielder in the deep.

Another googly, another wicket for Sandeep Lamichhane. Wicket No 100 for him in the T20Is. Jaker ALi is gone for 12. (BAN: 75/8 after 15.5 overs) 

Sandeep Lamichhane knock over Tanzim Hasan Sakib with a googly. Bangladesh are now in massive trouble. (BAN: 69/7 after 13.1 overs)

Massive wicket for Nepal. Rohit Paudel has trapped Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh are now in all sorts of trouble. (BAN: 63/6 after 12 overs)

Here is Kushal Bhurtel into the attack and he gave away only two runs. (BAN: 59/5 after 11 overs)

At the halfway stage, Bangladesh are 57 for 5. Nepal are all over Bangladesh. 

Confusion in the middle, and Mahmudullah Riyad is run out at the bowler's end! The partnership was building but lack of communication cost Mahmudullah's wicket here. Half of Bangladesh's side are back in the hut inside the first half of the innings.  (BAN: 52/5 after 9 overs)

Mahmudullah lunges forward and strikes the drive powerfully through extra cover. 50 is up for Bangladesh.

Excellent shot from Shakib Al Hasan. Hasan stays tall and plays with the turn. Cuts it uppishly but in the gap between short third man and backward point for a boundary. (BAN: 44/4 after 8 overs)

Here's Sandeep Lamichane. Mahmudullah gets away his first boundary. Mahmudullah hangs back and executes the late cut really well. Beats backward point to his left and beats his chase to the fence. (BAN: 37/4 after 6.5 overs) 

Another one bites the dust. Bangladesh are four down now. Skipper Rohit Paudel strikes in his first over. Bangladesh are in deep trouble. Hridoy goes for the slog sweep and gets a top edge, that flies high in the air in the region between short fine leg and deep backward square leg. Lamichhane at short fine leg, calls for it, runs across and keeps his eyes on the ball, takes an exceptional catch. (BAN: 31/4 after 6 overs)

Towhid Hridoy is off the mark with a boundary. (BAN: 26/3 after 5 overs)

Sompal Kami strikes again and this time removes the other opener, Litton Das. Really good captaincy from Rohit Paudel to give another over to his strike bowler. Litton played a cross-batted hoick across the line, only to get the thick top edge of the bat on it. The ball balloons up in the air and the wicket-keeper Aasif Sheikh took a regulation catch behind the stumps. (BAN: 21/3 after 4.2 overs)

Litton Das goes for the sweep again and this time places it nicely to collect his first boundary. Seven runs came from Airee's second over. (BAN: 20/2 after 3 overs)

Another superb over from Sompal Kami. His tail is up, his pace has gone up as well. He gave away two singles from his second over. (BAN: 13/2 after 2 overs)

Shakib Al Hasan is away in style. He gets forward and places it beautifully through cover for a boundary.  (BAN: 11/2 after 2 overs)

Straight through the gates! Shanto is in disbelief. Nepal are on top of this match. This is the 18th time that Shanto lost his wicket against a spinner in the T20Is since the last World Cup in 2022. Deependra Airee with the wicket for Nepal.

Kami almost got the second wicket. Litton Das was given out by the on-field umpire. He reviewed it straight away. The ball tracking shows it's missing the stumps. So, the decision will be overturned.

What a start for Nepal. Sompal Kami is over the moon. Poor shot from Tanzid Hasan Tamim as he departs on a golden duck. Tanzid charges down the track and looks to pull at it but is hurried by the spongy pace, and the ball lobs towards the bowler, who takes an easy catch in his follow-through.
