Petrol prices went up 35 times in NDA regime: Scindia

Minister says when NDA was in power,a barrel of oil in international markets used to cost $12.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industries,Jyotiraditya Scindia today said the BJP,which was strongly criticising recent hike in petrol prices, should not forget that the prices had gone up 35 times during the six years of NDA rule.

When the BJP-led NDA was in power,a barrel of oil in the international markets used to cost only 12 US dollars,Scindia told reporters.

The cost of an oil barrel was 84 USD in November last year and right now it had gone up to 132 USD. One-third of the current hike in petrol price would be borne by the oil companies, the second by the government while consumers would pay the remaining one-third,he said.

Despite the recent hike, the Congress-led UPA government is seriously working for the welfare of the common man in the country,he mentioned.

The Congress had got blessings of the people in 2009 and hopefully it would get the same in 2014,he said.
