Modi shares stage with Guj Governor amid Lokayukta row

CM Narendra Modi not only shared the dais with the Governor but also addressed the governor with salutations who responded in a similar vein.

In the backdrop against a tussle between Gujarat government and the Governor Dr Kamla over appointment of Lokayukta,Chief Minister Narendra Modi today not only shared the dais with her but also addressed the governor with salutations who responded in a similar vein.

The two dignitaries shared the stage, first time since the controversy broke out,at an event organised here to mark Teachers Day,where they fecilitated some of the best teachers in the state for their oustanding performance.

Modi started his speech by addressing the Governor as “Shradhey,Matra Swaroopa Kamalaji”,(Honourable Kamlaji who is like mother figure). The Governor in turn addressed Gujarat chief minister as “Mukhyamantri Mohaday,Shri Narendrabhai Modiji”.

Governor Dr Kamla had last month appointed Justice (retd) R A Mehta as the state Lokayukta,a post which had been lying vacant in Gujarat since 2003,allegedly by ‘bypassing’ the Modi-led BJP government.

The appointment caused a lot of furore in the BJP as the party has been stalling proceedings in both the houses of Parliament over the issue.

Modi had recently written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding recall of the governor over the issue.

Even as the chief minister and governor shared the dais for about two hours, neither of them broached the controversial topic.

“In the world as well as in the country a system of gradation exists in the Higher Education which shows business, engineering and medical colleges are in which grade but there is no system to grade primary schools,” Modi said.

The state government has taken a bold step through ‘Gunotsav’ and has introduced a system of grading for the primary schools in the state, which shall help improve the educational standards,he said.

Speaking on the occasion,Dr Kamla said in the era of liberalisation there is a need to change the educational environments in the school.

She emphasised on the need to leverage from advance technology in order to nurture the upcoming generation of the students.
