Congress termed choice of Meira Kumar for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker as a move towards women empowerment.
“She (Meira) is a five-time elected MP and of (retired) IFS…her nomination to the speaker’s post should not be linked with any politics,” Mohan Prakash,AICC spokesman told a press conference in Jaipur.
The party high command always considered women empowerment as it did in the choice of Pratibha Patil for the top post of President,he said.
On the possibility of change of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President in view of its incumbent C P Joshi becoming Union Minister for Panchayati Raj,Prakash said a decision to this effect would be taken by party high command.
