Goa government promoting RSS-backed NGOs, alleges Congress

Cong warned BJP not to vitiate the communal harmony by saffronising the state.

Goa Congress unit on Thursday alleged that the Parrikar government is promoting RSS-backed NGOs which would be funded through state exchequer.

“Parrikar wants to promote NGOs which exist outside Goa and are affiliated to Sangh Parivar,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president John Fernandes alleged while addressing a press conference here.

“I warn the BJP not to vitiate the communal harmony by saffronising the state,” he said, adding that the “Goa government was funding the RSS-backed NGOs.”

Fernandes was responding to a question on government’s announcement for funding NGOs to tackle stray cattle menace.

The chief minister has proposed to devise a scheme for five-year term to tackle stray cattle problem in collaboration with NGOs, including one run by Yoga Guru Ramdev – Bharat Swabhiman Kisan Sanstha.

When asked to comment on Congress’ allegation, BJP spokesman Dr Wilfred Mesqueita said that since Congress has no issues, it is banking on non-issues for its political survival.

“BJP is happy with the budget and we feel the government has done maximum considering the financial constraints,” Mesqueita said.
