Ajatshatru Singh joins BJP

He said he would work for the party’s ‘Mission 44’ in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a development that could prove to be a shot in the arm for the BJP in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir, erstwhile royal family member and the son of senior Congress leader Karan Singh, Ajatshatru Singh, joined the party Sunday.

Singh joined the party in the presence of BJP chief Amit Shah, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jitendra Singh, party general secretary Ram Madhav and BJP’s in-charge of J&K affairs Avinash Rai Khanna. He said he would work for the party’s ‘Mission 44’ in Jammu and Kashmir.

The state goes to polls in five phases beginning November 25.

“The people of the state want a corruption-free and dynasty-free government and want the state to join the national mainstream… I want to appeal to all those to join the BJP,” Shah said while welcoming Singh into the party fold.

Singh was earlier in the National Conference and a sitting member of the state Legislative Council from Nagrota seat.
