If the Central Government decides to remove Andhra Pradesh Governor N D Tiwari for his alleged romp in Raj Bhawan, all that would be required is a notification from the President.

Under Article 156 of the Constitution, which deals with the appointment of Governors, the Governor holds office only during the pleasure of the President. And,the President can withdraw the pleasure and recall the Governor without assigning any reason at any time.

Or,in the alternative, the President can ask the Governor to resign on his own. In the past, there have been instances of Governors being politely asked to resign. When the UPA-I took over,it asked some NDA-appointed Governors, who were affiliated to the RSS,to resign. But,when some of these Governors refused to do so,they were sacked, said an officer.
