A 22-year-old woman who set herself on fire on May 31,alleging that she was raped by three policemen and two others in Panipat,died of injuries on Sunday.
Savita died at the Rohtak PGI hospital,where she was admitted with 80 per cent burns on June 5. In her statement to a Judicial Magistrate,she had alleged that she had been facing mental harassment and physical abuse from three constables of Panipat police and police informer Kuldeep Sharma and his friend Rohit Chawla.
She alleged that on May 23,she was taken to the Chandnibagh Police Station by the five and harassed. On June 10,the Panipat police arrested Rohit Chawla. Savita also identified one of her tormentors as constable Radhey Sham Sharma,who has not been arrested yet.
