Kate Middlet on wore a stunning but simple ivory dress created by Alexander McQueens Sarah Burton on Friday, topped off with a tiara on loan from new grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth.
The dress featured a long train and lace applique over an ivory-coloured bodice and skirt, made of silk and satin. Kates earrings included diamond oak leaves and pear-shaped diamond acorns. Her hair was half up,half down and lightly curled. She is reported to have done her make-up herself.
The dress by Burton, was selected for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. The lace applique for the bodice and skirt was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework, with individual flowers hand-cut from lace (in shapes of roses, thistle, daffodils and shamrocks). The skirt was in the shape of an opening flower. The satin bodice is based on Victorian corsetry. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons. The shoes were also by McQueen.
