Kerala to give Onam kits to Northeast workers

To reassure workers from the Northeast and north India,the Kerala government decided to distribute Onam festival kits to them.

To reassure workers from the Northeast and north India,the Kerala government Wednesday decided to distribute Onam festival kits to them.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the Labour department would give away Rs 10 crore worth of kits to all migrant workers from August 25. Onam,Keralas harvest festival,falls on August 28.

After recent developments in other parts of the country where people from N-E attacked or fled fearing attacks,Kerala wants to send a message that migrant workers are very much part of the state and will be safe, said Labour Minister Shibu Baby John. He said the kit will contain rice,sugar,chilly and tea.
