India should demand halt to NATO strikes in Libya, says CPM

Condemning the NATO airstrike in Libya that killed Muammar Gaddafi’s youngest son and three grandchildren, the CPM on Sunday alleged that the “barbarous” act exposes the real intention of the military intervention which is to effect a “regime change” there. The party demanded that there should be an “immediate” halt to the military strikes by the NATO and India should demand an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to put an end to the military intervention and to initiate talks for a ceasefire.

“The NATO forces are targeting Gaddafi and other leaders for assassination. This exposes the real intention of the military intervention which is to effect a “regime change” in Libya. Those responsible for this crime should be held accountable,” the party said in a statement.

The killing of the youngest son of Gaddafi,Seif al-Arab,and deaths of three young children belonging to the family in a NATO air strike in Tripoli is a “barbarous act”,it said. Seif al-Arab,29,the youngest of the seven sons of the Libyan leader, have been killed in a NATO airstrike, the Libyan government said on Sunday.
