The unveiling of the first MOVIA metro train,made in India,at Bombardier Transportations Savli plant on Friday has given Gujarat quite a few reasons for cheer. With this,Vadodara has become the only city in the world with local capacity to manufacture railway vehicles including key components.
Now with Gujarat rolling out hi-tech metro cars,the state might soon get its own environment-friendly Metro rail,said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Globally,there might be awareness campaigns,seminars,oaths being administered on the occasion of World Environment Day but Gujarat will be vocal through its actions by promoting an environment-friendly mode of transport, Modi said. To solve our traffic problems mass transport has to be accepted soon, he said.
The Savli plant will serve projects in entire South East Asia. The site has been designed and built from scratch based on Bombardiers state-of-the-art railway vehicle manufacturing plant located in Gorlitz,Germany,and has been able to roll out the first hi-tech metro train in a record time of 18 months.
