South Africa did Group B rivals India,England and West Indies a big favour by securing all three teams a place in the Cricket World Cup quarter-finals after beating Bangladesh by 206 runs on Saturday.

South Africa ensured top place in Group B and sent Bangladesh to the brink of World Cup elimination with a 206-run win on Saturday.

South Africa’s win means India and England are also assured of quarterfinal places. West Indies can advance if it avoids a heavily lopsided defeat to India at Chennai on Sunday.

Bangladesh’s only hope of advancing is for the West Indies to slump to a heavy defeat and fall behind on the net runrate for the tournament. Both teams are on six points.

On today’s match,Saturday,South Africa got on top early, posting 284 for eight after winning the toss and electing to bat. Robin Peterson took 4-12 as Bangladesh was dismissed for 78 in 28 overs in a reply that never gathered momentum.

The outcome of India’s match against West Indies on Sunday will now decide the positions of the other three qualifiers from the group.
