Nepal assembly elects Madhav Nepal as PM

Madhav Kumar Nepal,former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal-unified Marxist Leninist was elected Prime Minister unopposed.

Madhav Kumar Nepal,former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal-unified Marxist Leninist was elected Prime Minister unopposed on Saturday.

Nepal’s election as the Prime Minister was announced in the constituent assembly by speaker Subhash Nembang after representatives of 22 out of 24 parties represented in the house extended their parties support. The Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists boycotted the election proceedings.

Nepali Congress leader and former Prime Minsiter G P Koirala had proposed Nepal to succeed Prachanda who quit three weeks ago in protest against President Rambaran Yadav reinstating army chief R Katawal who the Prime Minister had sacked.
