Every bride dreams of looking her absolute best on her wedding day, but the harsh winters can leave your skin feeling extra dry and flaky. Winter brings some challenges to the skin.
The cold winter air lacks the moisture content of the warmer months, leading to a common skin health concern, dryness. This dryness isn’t limited to the top layer; it penetrates deep into the skin and upsets the natural balance, leaving the skin dull and flaky. The skin struggles to retain moisture, so it’s important to change up your skincare routine for added hydration and protection.
Dr Niti Gaur, dermatologist and founder of Citrine Clinic, Gurgaon, recommended staying away from smoking and alcohol, as these go a long way in ensuring that your skin remains healthy and radiant.
“A glowing, healthy skin cannot be achieved overnight, so brides need to take extra care of their skin at least six months before the wedding,” Dr Gaur said.
To preserve your skin health and boost your natural glow, here are some winter skincare tips for all brides-to-be.
1. Hydration: The air in winter months is dry, which can leave your skin dehydrated. So using a high-quality, hydrating moisturiser that suits your skin type, is a must. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid can help lock in moisture, making your skin plump and smooth.
2. Cleansing: Avoid harsh cleansers that strip natural oils from your skin. Instead opt for gentle, hydrating cleansers that preserve your skin’s natural barrier, preventing dryness and irritation.
3. Exfoliation: Regular, gentle exfoliation is crucial to remove dead skin cells, promoting a bright and even complexion. However, be cautious not to over-exfoliate, as it can lead to skin sensitivity and redness. Avoid long hot showers, as they strip the skin of its natural moisturising oils.
4. Nutrition for Skin: A diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins can significantly impact the health and appearance of your skin. Consider taking supplements that will help you complete your nutrition intake. Foods like berries, nuts, and green leafy vegetables are also great choices.
5. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining skin hydration from the inside out. It helps flush out toxins and keeps your skin cells plump.
6. Sun Protection: Even in ice, UV rays can be harmful. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen each day to defend your pores and skin from untimely ageing and hold even pores and skin tone.
7. Stress Management: Wedding planning may be worrying, which may affect your skin. Practices like yoga, meditation, or even an ordinary workout can assist in manipulating stress levels.
8. Consistent Routine: Lastly, consistency is important. Maintain an everyday skincare routine, giving your pores and skin adequate time to adapt and monitor their glow.
It is important to consult a dermatologist so that a personalised skincare routine can be formulated, and any additional concerns like acne, pigmentation etc can be addressed.
